  4. I have a zero data retention agreement with Anthropic. What products does it apply to?

This article is about certain commercial products, including the Anthropic Messages API and Claude Code on Enterprise plans. For our consumer products such as Claude Free, Pro, Max and when accounts from those plans use Claude Code, see here.

Some Claude Platform (Claude API) and Claude Code for Enterprise customers, subject to Anthropic’s approval, may have arrangements under which Anthropic does not store their inputs or outputs except where needed to comply with law or combat misuse or harm. Under these arrangements, Anthropic still retains User Safety classifier results in order to enforce our Usage Policy. These arrangements are distinct from Anthropic’s default approach to data retention.

Under these agreements, the only products to which zero data retention applies are eligible Anthropic APIs, Anthropic products that use your Commercial organization API key (including Claude Code accessed via the API), and Claude Code for Enterprise plans. If you’re a current or prospective Claude Platform or Claude Code on Enterprise plan customer with questions about zero data retention, please reach out to our Sales Team. Note that zero data retention requests are reviewed and applied on a per-organization basis, so if you have multiple organizations, please ensure this is conveyed to our Sales Team. Claude Platform users can confirm that ZDR is applied to their account under Settings > Privacy Controls > Data retention period on their account.

If you have questions about Anthropic's Business Associate Agreement (BAA), which is only available to customers who use our HIPAA-eligible services, including those that qualify for zero data retention, please also read this article. As part of the BAA, customers of Anthropic’s HIPAA-eligible services are subject to certain configuration requirements and limitations on what features/integrations are available (e.g., the BAA would not apply to use of the web search functionality).
