A militiaman by circumstance as much as by lack of alternatives, he navigates a daily life where violence has become the norm and every street corner may turn into a shifting front line. One day he meets Soraya, a journalist determined to document the conflict. She watches Omar with a mixture of distance and compassion, searching in his gestures and silences for traces of a stolen youth. With her camera and her questions, she tries to make sense of the chaos swallowing the country, only to discover that the war resists any attempt at clarity. Caught in this turmoil is Aïda, a fragile young woman carried along by men, factions, and illusions. She clings to Omar as if he were a lifeline, hoping for a protection he's no longer sure he can provide. Her fate unfolds in the cracks of the conflict, where emotions struggle to survive. Gradually, their paths cross, drift apart, and collide. In the ruins of a fractured nation, each fights a personal "small war" - the wars of fears, desires, convictions, and impossible choices. And while the greater war continues to crush everything around them, they still strive, however desperately, to hold on to a fragment of humanity. Written by N. Elkhoury See less
