Following a failed investment in rock salts, the struggling businessman Earl opens a new storage company. He still owes money to his former associate Emmett, but he convinces the man to invest in the company as his new business partner. Their first client is supposed to be a civic group, but the businessmen are less than thrilled when they discover that the client is actually the Ku Klux Klan. Subsequent episodes deal with the unauthorized sale of merchandise for a television series, the Red Scare and paranoid accusations of Earl and his wife being communist sympathizers, visits from a wartime buddy whose hand was amputated during World War II, and the company's only employee being pressured into joining a local union.
