But in the hotel he meets Father Bardolin who gives him a suitcase with documents and is then killed. From the suitcase Lupine learns that Father Bardolin was investigating a theft of Etruscan works of art from the Vatican. Lupine then takes his place and goes to Monsignor Alberoni in Rome.
