Beth Warren, a ward of the family, discovers them in the act of robbery and gets a good look at Cope. Alvin's brother, Jim, a Texas Ranger on holiday in the East, takes the blame for the crime in order to protect Alvin. A year later, Beth comes west to visit Jim and recognizes Cope, who runs a trading post. Cope kidnaps her with the help of Santo, a half-breed, and takes her to a cabin. Jim trails them there and mortally wounds Cope, who confesses his guilt in the robbery and returns most of the stolen money. Beth and Jim seem destined for marriage, and the elder Warren uses the money to clear himself of charges of embezzlement that resulted from the original loss of the money.
