She lives with her meddlesome, gossipy old mum Alice Tripp (Patricia Hayes) who is obsessed with Marjorie finding a suitable new partner. Living with Mrs Tripp would be intolerable for many women but indomitable Marge takes it all in her stride - well, mostly. Marjorie's happy-go-lucky nature stands her in equally good stead with the men who come into her life, from a silver-tongued motorbike enthusiast (played by John Quayle) to a greengrocer with about as much charisma as a limp lettuce (Timothy West) and a dance partner with surprising musical tastes (George Baker). At the bank where she's working hard for promotion, under-manager Henry Bartlett (James Cossins), prissy but passionate, becomes a problem. Thank goodness for Sid Parkin (Ronnie Stevens), her workplace confidant, who is more interested in sharing a good laugh than a night of passion. And Marjorie is never short of advice from much younger colleague Debbie - an early television role for Michelle Collins.See less
