He falls for Shanta, a teacher, and transforms himself for her, but she's initially unimpressed. They get married due to her parents' pressure. When Vasanthi is murdered, Selvam is wrongly accused and convicted. However, Shanta stands by him, and eventually exposes the real killer, Paramathma, leading to Selvam's release.
