The sheriff reads that a dangerous lunatic, whose mania is proposing to women, is at large, and when he sees Lord Helpus proposing to Bess, who does not enjoy it, he takes him for the madman. Billy chases Helpus away from Bess, and when the rubes arrive they chase Billy as a lunatic. The sheriff returns and pursues Helpus with a shotgun. Bess tells her father, who phones the next town that the woods are full of lunatics. The sheriff sees the colonel trying to restrain Bess from going after Billy. He arrests the colonel as the lunatic. Both Billy and Helpus have been caught by the rubes. Billy is released, but Helpus is thrown into the shed with the colonel. Bess and Billy elope, leaving a note which says that Helpus is to blame. The colonel beats up the lord, and is too late to catch the lovers. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
