His one joy in life is the daughter of his mistress, and through her efforts he becomes a house servant. When war breaks out, Colonel Tremere, the father of the little girl and owner of Uncle Jim, fights under the Confederate flag. In an engagement near his home, he is fatally wounded in a charge and Old Uncle Jim, running out on the battlefield, rescues his dying master. The war closes. The slaves are freed and Uncle Jim wanders to the north. Thirty years later, he goes back to his old home at Lynchburg, carrying with him the only possession he has cherished through life, the little slipper of the little girl. The final meeting between Uncle Jim and his "Li'le Missis," who now is grown and has a little child of her own, is very affecting. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
