The old man is heartbroken and realizes that he has been too strict with her. He goes to Paris to find her. In the meantime Marie has secured an apartment in the artists' quarters and attempts to finish the picture. Before she has it finished her funds are so diminished that she is unable to buy the material necessary to complete it. Raoul Dante, an artist, who has an apartment adjoining and who is interested in his pretty neighbor, hears her prayer to the Virgin for aid, and during her absence one day, finishes the painting. Marie, on returning home, is astonished and delighted; the old janitor tries to make her think that the Virgin must have done it. Marie sells the picture for a good sum and is happy, although puzzled as to who finished the painting. One day she overhears Raoul and the janitor talking and discovers that it was Raoul who had been so kind to her. She thanks him and later they fall in love. Pierre comes to Paris, sees the picture exhibited in the window, buys it and is just returning home when, in passing a building under construction, a brick falls on him, rendering him unconscious. Raoul, discovering the accident, removes him to his apartment, together with the picture, and then a touching reunion takes place between him and Marie. Pierre consents to have Raoul for his son-in-law. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
