Pendragon tries to escape and after a terrific hand-to-hand fight perishes, Betty swears vengeance. That night she finds Rutledge badly wounded on the battlefield. She has him taken to her home where she nurses him back to health and strength, but all the time nursing her revenge. Rutledge wins her love and she becomes torn between love for him and desire for vengeance. Love conquers when Pendragon appears and tells how he escaped death in the river.
