Polidor decides there is nothing for him to do but to take the statue's place, and garbing himself to resemble the original, he takes up a position on the pedestal and is conveyed by the workman to the house of the gentleman who has purchased the statue. Here he is placed on top of the stove in the living room, and all goes well until the stove is lighted. At last he can stand the heat no longer, and, leaping down, runs for his life. The pursuit is hot but Polidor is resourceful, and by striking an attitude in front of one of the monuments in the street, succeeds in passing as one of the sculptured figures, his enemies passing and leaving him free.
