Lotti doesn't think twice and sets off to visit Ernst. Her daughter Charlotte, a successful lawyer, travels after her to bring her unpredictable mother back as quickly as possible. When Ernst is finally found, there is initially no turning back, because Paul, Ernst's partner, invites them on a trip to Meissen. Ernst conceals the fact that the old Elbe barge is to be taken over by the bank and auctioned off that very afternoon due to outstanding loan installments. The others only find out about the predicament through a radio message, but Paul, who has just landed a rescue job, refuses to return to the harbor in Torgau. And so the joyride turns into an escape from the seizure hearing. While Lotti and Ernst fall in love again on this turbulent journey, Charlotte also recognizes Paul's qualities and has to admit to herself how boring her well-ordered life is. But it is only after the four of them are separated once again by a misunderstanding that Charlotte decides she cannot marry Oswald and returns with Lotti to the place of her true destiny.
