Despite boxing not being Doris' interest, she reluctantly agrees. Although she arrives looking like the proverbial fish out of water, Doris is determined to fit in "with the boys". Duke ends up taking a special interest in Doris professionally because of his special interest in her personally, he who provides her exclusive access on behalf of all the members of the press. Doris ends up being a distraction to Duke - who professes his love for her - which could possibly ruin his chances of defending his title as he has her on his mind instead of boxing.
