Leda resists the idea, but Nelson insists. Paul paints the portrait, but promises it will contain her spirit, her vanity and dishonesty. When the portrait is completed, it shows Leda's image standing holding a bloody knife. Displayed at the Wylie's home, it disturbs Nelson, who has it moved from the living room to the wall above Leda's bed. But the very superstitious Leda believes that something extraordinary is happening. Anything that occurs to the painting, she suspects, will happen to her. Already, cuts and scratches on the painting are being replicated on Leda's body. Nelson dismisses these notions as more superstition, but Leda is not convinced.
