His sister does not believe the medical examiner's conclusion that his death was accidental, and hires Mannix to find out if he was murdered, and if so, by whom. A clue left by a young boy whom Mannix observes spying on the Martin home leads Mannix to a Chicano neighborhood, where he discovers further evidence about Martin's death, but also uncovers resentments and accusations toward Martin by some residents of the neighborhood.
