Set in old Cairo during era of thugs and larrikins, the bully Hassunah el-Sab (Hamdi Ghaith) imposes large taxes on the neighborhood's residents and goes to extremes in his oppression and humiliation. Hassunah oppresses the family of Ashoor el-Nagi (Izzat el-Alayli), whose circumstances fluctuate between wealth and extreme poverty. Hassunah forces him to divorce his wife (Taysir Fahmi) and leave the neighborhood. He then attempts to force her father and the marriage notary to marry her off to him before end of her waiting period. Ashoor stands up to injustice, along with neighborhood's oppressed residents.
