At the same time his old mentor Professor Paul Burnett, suffering from pancreatic cancer, asks him to operate on him. Louise leaves Alex, and Dan admits to Maddie that he's in love with Louise. Elliott practices tough love on James as he recovers from his shoulder wound and his withdrawal from drugs but to no avail. Jac hears about the consultant position in AEU. Although the CEO, Jayne Grayson, had withdrawn it when Lola told her she wanted the job, now Jac wants it. He later finds out that it was one of Joseph's jokes to wind her up.
