Medicine student Ella Linne noticed and dobs to captain Parger, whom Grimm and Hanna persuade to let him work for his passage, including fetching a vital spare part at the notoriously often-closed (matrons-run) port authority. In the process Eric and Ella become friends and collaborators, rendering him mores responsible, her more aware, self-reliant and sensitive, changing both lives.
