Writer and broadcaster Carol Thatcher and the Director of Liberty, Shami Chakrabarti reviewed the Sunday news papers with Andrew Marr. The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, spoke to Andrew about the upcoming mayoral elections and the suspension of one of his officials for abuse of office. One issue of interest is should he seek a third term in office? In the week that two of his early works opened in the West End, writer and retired barrister Sir John Mortimer, spoke to Andrew about his life and work and, of course, his eponymous TV creation "Rumpole of the Bailey". In the light of two very high profile murder convictions using DNA evidence, Shadow Home Secretary David Davis, addressed the very important question of whether the state should maintain a DNA database of the entire population of the UK. David and Andrew also discussed the UK's youth drinking culture and how it could be curtailed. Former Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett MP, who has just been elected chair of the joint intelligence select committee talked to Andrew about the issue of extraordinary rendition which came to the fore this when the USA admitted to using Diego Garcia for such flights!
