As the case is investigated further, MJ's superior, DCI Ford gets involved - causing a clash between the two women - after she becomes suspicious of Laird, and it is not long until she is treating him as a possible murder suspect. However, it is soon discovered that Irene has gone missing several times before, and has changed her name each time she gets into a new relationship. She is effectively a serial missing person. Amy investigates the disappearance of a man who vanished years ago after giving evidence in court against his criminal father. MJ contacts her ex-husband, Craig, for information about Ellen and finds out that she may be back in the country.
