Tied to the engine, the son is speeding on a runaway engine toward the Flicker Creek bridge which has been swept away by the floods. Helen and her friend, Steve, take a short cut on horseback that enables them to overtake the engine. She swings to the other horse, then climbs to Steven's shoulders, and standing in this perilous position on the racing horse, leaps to the engine which is brought to a stop on the brink of the riverbank.
