But prior to WWII the area was also home to several thousand Jewish families and individuals. Usually based in towns like Rouen, Le Havre and Cherbourg, some were French, some from other Countries, some were practicing Jews, others were not. In today's show Magali Desquesne examines what happened to these people when the Germans occupied France in 1940. There are tales of deportation and murder and of bravery and survival.
