The camera acts as the passenger in a world where the voice-over narration is the tour guide. The world the protagonist lives in should seem familiar, but hopefully through a lens that transforms these known environments. The narrator struggles to remember the past as his consciousness is flooded with incomprehensible images. He as been stuck in a bubble, a network of buildings which act as fallout shelters from nuclear warfare, for a decade and a half. This acts as a metaphor for the experience of living in Edmonton as one can resort to staying inside for days through the use of parkades, garages, pedways and underground transportation. Also the idea as Edmonton as a Bubble where souls can become lost. Inspired and influenced by the experimental exploratory nature of Chris Maker's San Soliel (1983) and La Jatee (1963) as well as Wong Kar-wai's stylistically blurry guerrilla film making and ideas in Gary Burns films which confront monocentric urban sprawl, but not nearly as commanding and capable as any of these directors. It was a great first learning experience where I could take my theoretical knowledge and adoration of cinema and find out what I could do behind the camera. Written by Michael Feehan See less
