Though she was comatose for almost a year, her dad (Albert Martinez) refused to take her off life support while her mom wanted her suffering to end. The Santelices family had a hard time accepting Tara's fate since not only was she a good daughter but she had touched a lot of people's lives with her advocacies. Proof of how well loved Tara was was the long line of visitors during her confinement in the hospital and her friends and acquaintances mounted various fund raising activities for her expensive hospital bills.
