To prove the truth of what she said, she hits him with a cutlass, but the instrument breaks without causing him any harm. At the house of a lady, at the moment when he is kneeling at her feet, the husband appears. He fires two shots from a revolver at Tontolini, but the latter, unharmed, returns the two projectiles to the husband, stunned, and he leaves, smiling. For having defended a child, Tontolini has a duel with an old soldier, but the sword bends over his chest. Soldiers perform cannon shooting tests; Tontolini jumps in front of the room; the ball hits him in the back and rebounds into the cannon, which moves backwards dizzyingly. Tontolini is put in a barrel, which is dropped from a rock. Among the debris he emerges safe and sound, leaving the miners who were working there amazed and surprised. But the liquor had not anticipated "the bellows and the scratches". Tontolini clearly feels those he receives from two grisettes annoyed by his insistence on following them.
