"You say I am malevolent, a hater of men...How you do me wrong. For you know not the nature of the affliction that makes me seem so." Following this intro, I was ushered into the life of Ludwig van Beethoven, from growing up under his father and taking up the study of music, to the loss of his hearing and his death. Brilliantly read by David McCallum as Ludwig, the visuals are well shot to match the tone of the story. You pass from the highs of being at court as his dances are celebrated, to the last garret that he occupied, as doctors of the day failed to help him cope with his escalating deafness. But even at the end his resolve to press on, gives a lift to our vision of life. Ending quote: " Man help yourself, for you are able." Written by odinson23 See less
