As he's showing it to the other Star Sheriffs, they get word that the settlement of New Dallas has come under attack by the Outriders. When they arrive, the Star Sheriffs find the outpost in ruins. The Outriders ambush the Star Sheriffs. Colt draws their fire so the others can escape.
