The WaPo investigation initially focuses on the members of a drug support group, which also included Lina and her mentally disturbed ex-boyfriend Oli. Is Lina's death the sad end of a relationship drama? For its director, Marie Liu, the tragedy is primarily further evidence of a scandalous failure of the authorities. "White Lightning" is freely available due to a legal loophole. And then there's the dropout Frieder Mertens, in whose trailer Lina was apparently before her death. Was she having an affair with him? And why did Lina's ex-boyfriend Oli escape from the psychiatric hospital on the very day of her death? Little by little, the investigators piece together the mysterious puzzle and in the end realize that everything was completely different than they thought: perpetrators become victims and victims become perpetrators.
