Gretchen is also admired by Rudolf, a bold, bad fellow of uncouth appearance and little refinement. Hans catches Rudolf poaching on the Baron's preserves, of which he is the guard. He arrests him but Rudolf turns the tables, captures Gretchen in the bargain and would do his worst by each were it not for faithful Koenig, the hunter-dog of Gretchen's. Koenig runs home, gives the old man a warning bark and sets off on the trail. All are apprehended, the two prisoners are freed and the guilty are brought to the authorities for swift punishment.
