The surgeons are kept busy with a variety of cases,including Shelley Maxwell,a young girl whose brain shunt,fitted as a baby,is starting to malfunction but worries that,once it is fixed,her estranged parents will have no reason to unite,Lizzie intervening to help. Lynn Monkford believes she will die of cancer within a year,requiring Monroe to perform a delicate operation to reduce her tumour so that she may have some quality of life and Graham Birdwell needs a double heart by-pass helped by his disabled brother. Mullery comes to the rescue of Sarah Witney when she wavers over an emergency admission with a nail in his chest but Lawrence and Jenny are rapidly drifting apart.
