He gives an unusual personal testimony on crucial moments of the German history of the 20th century. Bernd Freytag survived the cauldron of Stalingrad and witnessed the assassination attempt oft the 20th of July 1944 against Hitler. Thereafter for nine months he encountered Hitler on a daily basis at the military briefings as adjutant to the Chief of the General Staff Guderian. In that position he stayed the last week in the Fuhrer Bunker in Berlin, up to 24 hours before Hilters suicide. Apart from the high cinematic quality the film features the outstanding narrative talent of Bernd Freytag. The film is shot in Munich, Berlin and Poland and employes plentiful archive material.
