At its core, High tells the story of a girl whose head is in the clouds - hopelessly and dangerously in love. Her passion feels euphoric, almost intoxicating, but like a drug, it's a high that's beautiful yet toxic. Her friends try to warn her that the love she's chasing isn't good for her, but she's too deep in the fantasy to see it. The film blurs the line between fantasy and reality - from surreal futuristic scenes where Alana dances among aliens in space, to cosmic imagery of smoke swirling from her body as a metaphor for being consumed by love. In contrast, we see her laughing endlessly with her boyfriend at Coney Island, cruising through the city in her best car, and showing up as her most confident self.
