Initially, he does this to support his wife, Nora and ease their financial struggles. Grayson claims the money comes from routine things like dental appointments, but Nora becomes suspicious as their financial issues mysteriously resolve. Over time, Grayson sells more and more of his traumatic past, including memories of child abuse and witnessing domestic violence. As Nora discovers the hidden duffle bag of money, tension explodes between them. Grayson, emotionally numbed by the removal of core memories, spirals into instability. Their final confrontation reveals that erasing trauma hasn't freed Grayson but has hollowed him out. In a tragic climax, Grayson mirrors the abuse he endured, violently attacking Nora, indicating that unprocessed trauma can't be surgically removed without devastating consequences and that your past makes you who you are.
