While the youth is engaged with his tutor, the Queen receives a visit from some of her former partisans, who come to ask for money with which to finance a movement in favor of the exiled King. She gives them all she has, and one of the party lingers behind and declares his love. She repulses him, but her son finds her in tears, and, learning the cause, prepares to avenge the action. He begins to take fencing lessons with an expert, but during a mock duel he is wounded. The Queen receives the news at the same moment as a letter is put in her hand informing her that her son is recalled to the throne. She hurries to his bedside, and after a long time of nursing succeeds in restoring him to health. Meanwhile a pretender has mounted the throne, and the young King is deprived of his kingdom. But he has youth, love and happiness on his side, and he contents himself with these. Written by Anonymous See less
