But she is a Christian. and will not listen to Albanus until be consents to become a Christian also. Albanus has a rival in Lucius, a potter, whom Fabiola dislikes. He watches her go out, and, following her, sees her join her fellow Christians, and discovers their secret meeting place. He tells all to the Prefect, who sends soldiers to surround the spot where the Christians are holding their service. When the men break in they find Albanus in the act of being baptized. They are arrested, and brought before the Prefect, who sends them to their death. Albanus is condemned by his own father. The next morning the Prefect comes to claim the body of his crucified son, while the river carries with it the 'corpse of Fabiola, the Christian maid. Written by Anonymous See less
