When Maggie notices her glowing appearance, Althea reveals that she and John were married. Maggie insists on giving John and Althea a wedding dinner at the Powers house. Cathy wryly tells Steve, on his way to see Carolee, that they should work out a phone signal just in case Dr. Allison decides to drop by. Steve shares with Carolee the news that Erich's tests confirm he has Tetralogy of Fallot, and Karen will be bringing him from Germany for open heart surgery at Hope Memorial. Cathy and Nick literally run into one another outside Matt's office door. Nick rails at Matt about the lithium project, and when Matt balks that Nick's still competing with John, Nick angrily tells a stunned Matt to stop pretending that he doesn't know Althea ran off and married John. Refusing to accept Matt's pity, Nick declares himself lucky to have gotten out alive. He storms out to find Althea standing at the nurse's station with Cathy. Nick boldly insists that he and Cathy go out to celebrate him being roasted over a spit.
