But is it? Through a wide spectrum of multi perspectival oral histories that span more than five years of in-depth ethnographic fieldwork, a comprehensive narrative is drawn out to reveal the deep sentiments that percolate these spaces of disaster and abandonment. This film follows a group of people whose lives have forever been disrupted by the disaster: a nuclear power plant executive, a priest, a travel inn owner, a farmer, the mayor of a local town, and an 86 year old evacuee. It is through the lived experiences and oral histories of survivors that the repercussions of the troubled nuclear industry in Japan are humanized, and an understanding of man-made disaster spaces is unveiled, educating the global community on the hidden perils and consequences of man-made disasters.See less
