Overview
William Hua, Ph.D., is the Division Director of the Alliance Health Project (AHP), a community-based program for the HIV and LGBTQ+ communities that offers compassionate, comprehensive, and culturally tailored behavioral health, sexual health, and case management services as well as education to healthcare providers. AHP is a division of the University of California, San Francisco Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. As an Associate Clinical Professor, Dr. Hua is active in training, education, and equity initiatives.
Prior to joining AHP, Dr. Hua served as clinical health psychologist for 10+ years at the San Francisco VA Health Care System, where he provided integrated care services for Veterans living with HIV and/or liver care concerns. He led several diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives, including Chair of the Psychology Diversity Committee, primary consultant on the first-ever diversity consultation service in the VA system, and co-author of a DEIB-focused hiring toolkit that became a national model across the VA system. He is also co-founder of a non-profit called Here to Hope, which provided HIV education and prevention services in Guyana, South America from 2009-2019.
Dr. Hua received his B.S. from Oklahoma State University, his Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology & Behavioral Medicine at the University of North Texas, and completed specialized behavioral medicine training through the Palo Alto VA Health Care System psychology internship and fellowship programs.
