Hana Moataz is one of several Egyptians born in the 21st Century and already inside the top 50 of the World Rankings.

She started brilliantly on Tour in 2015, making the last eight of the Malaysian Tour Squash V in her first main draw, before reaching the semis of the Prague Open. In just her fourth main draw as a professional, Moataz secured her first victory, winning the Grand Sport Armenia 1st Challenger 5 in 2016.

The Egyptian reached the semis of the Harrow Ukrainian Squash Cup and the Legacy Wealth Belfast Open later that year, before making another final the year after, where she lost out to Julianne Courtice at the Christchurch Vets Ipswich Open.

She reached another final in 2018, at the Malaysian Tour Squash VI, which came in a great run of form that included quarter-final finishes at the Novum Energy Texas Open Women’s Squash Championships and the Chief of the Air Staff International Women’s Squash Championship.

2019 proved to be a breakout year for Moataz, as she reached at least the quarter-finals of all bar two events she entered including three final appearances. It started with a semi-final result at the CSC Delaware Open, before making the last eight of the E.M. Noll Classic and the Delhi Leg of the HCL SRFI Indian Tour.

Moataz then made the finals of the Aspin Cup, Serena Huawei Pakistan International Squash Tournament and the CIB Egyptian Tour 3, before appearing in the main draw of a major tournament for the first time, as she featured in Chicago at the Windy City Open in 2020.

On her return to the Tour following its enforced six-month suspension due to COVID-19 pandemic, Moataz made the semis of the Egyptian Challenger Tour #2 before claiming her second Tour title at the 2nd HCL SRFI Indian Tour - Chennai Leg 1. She also reached the semis of the second event on the Egyptian Tour, before making the last 16 of the Squash on Fire Open, Nash Cup and DAC Pro Squash Classic, all on American soil.

That form continued into the early part of 2023, where she also made the last 16 of the E.M. Noll Classic and the Carol Weymuller Open, before she secured a first Challenger 20 level crown. Moataz defeated Japan’s Satomi Watanabe in the final of the Richmond Open.

That was just the start of a very strong year for the Egyptian, who won four times in total. She claimed another Challenger 20 victory, as she got the better of Lucy Beecroft in the final of the Hamilton Open, along with two Challenger 10 level wins. Moataz was also victorious at the Life Time Chicago Open and the London Open.

She also made the last 16 of the CIB Zed Squash Open to start the 2022-2023 season, along with making a first quarter final on the PSA World Tour. Moataz did so at the Carol Weymuller Open in January 2023, and with it, moved inside the world’s top 40 for the first time in her career. She also reached the quarter finals of the Chestnut Hill Classic and the Women’s Kinetic Orange Ball Challenger, with those results pushing Moataz to a new career-high of World No.34 in May 2023.
