It also explores the determinants of this relationship during the period 1980-2012. The study constructs a Vector Auto Regressive VAR model based on economic theory and methodology applied in energy economics models. In addition, it applied a Vector Error Correction model VECM. To examine the performance of the model, several tests were applied, notably the unit root test, the number-of-lags test, co-integration test, and Granger’s causality test. The results of model estimation showed that the consumption of electricity was not affected by GDP per capita, and there was a significant negative effect of the price of electricity on electricity consumption. It was evident from the results that the causal relationships between the variables of the model were unidirectional, which is consistent with economic theory regarding the demand for goods, produc...
Taiwanese films are categorized as non-canonic ones, based on linguistic and cultural references.... more Taiwanese films are categorized as non-canonic ones, based on linguistic and cultural references. With the flourishing of Cape No.7, released in 2008, Taiwanese film has reached international audience, and the subtitle between multi-linguistic Taiwanese and English has become particularly important. The translation of subtitle attempts inevitably to bridge the cultural and linguistic gaps. In Taiwan, the multilingualism can no longer be ignored. The code-mixing, colloquialism, idioms, cultural-related puns and pop-songs pose the challenge to audiovisual translators, along with certain restrictions which operate in subtitling. This paper, taking Seven Days in Heaven ( 父後七日 ) as a case study, will examine the effects of the English subtitle on Taiwanese film, and discuss the translation difficulties associated with culture related untranslatability. Subtitle translation is a triggering problem due to the time and space. (Diaz, 2007; Egoyan & Balfour, 2004; Gambier, 1997; Gottlieb, 199...

To achieve this, several forms of the Generalized Auto-Regressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model were utilized. Both panel and individual stationarity, in addition to cointegration tests, were employed to highlight the interaction between these markets. The results suggest that Arab stock markets have weak linkages with the exception of those of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The authors also find out that the TARCH, EGARCH, PARCH, and Component GARCH (1,1) models are suitable in terms of passing the econometric analysis tests. Nevertheless, they conclude that the EGARCH model is the most appropriate for capturing the cross-market dynamic linkages, thereby outperforming the other GARCH specifications under study. The empirical findings bear special implications for economic literatu...

The methodology has been profoundly influenced by the statistical approach of Analyses Of Variance (ANOVA). This approach tests regional variations in consumption on governorates level. The Least Significant Difference (LSD) test for per capita expenditure is also employed to see where the regional differences occurred. Finally, the test of homogeneity of variances is applied. By examining the official data on per capita expenditure, this study provides evidence that regional inequalities had increased between 1997 and 2002, emphasizing that the five-years growth period following 1997 have not succeeded in decreasing the economic gap among different regions in Jordan. These results may guide economic policies decision-makers to allocate more resources to certain governorates.

The problem of eGovernment adoption is complex and multi-dimensional in nature. Yet, very little research has been conducted to understand the factors that determine citizen adoption of these services, especially in developing countries. To fill up this gap in the literature, this study examines factors influencing citizen adoption of eGovernment services in developing countries. We achieve this objective through ...

It uses an Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to determine this econometric relationship using data during 1980-2011. After testing for unit root and cointegration, it identifies Granger causality between energy consumption and real economic growth. The analysis allowed for the verification of the four hypotheses that have been discussed widely in economic literature: Neutrality, Conservation, Growth, and Feedback hypotheses. Empirical findings support neutrality hypothesis in 16 out of 17 Arab countries. These findings, of no causality from economic growth to energy consumption and the other way round, imply that energy conservation will not have a significant impact on economic growth and economic growth will h...

It also examines the use of photovoltaic solar cells to generate electricity and supplement Jordan’s national grid. The emission analysis is used to determine the case framework and the project’s GHG emissions, which is the CO2 project. The study’s findings demonstrate that implementing photovoltaic (PV) plans is economically feasible for Jordan’s electricity production. The annual energy savings are estimated to be 9315.61 kWh, which equates to a savings of over 3200 USD per year on the electricity bill. This is in addition to the annual reduction of GHG emissions by 920.7 tCO2, indicating that the case study initiated a beneficial event. The study contributes to filling a gap in the existing literature on the energy savings and environmental benefits of green buildings, w...

This study looked at child labour and education issues, not only to understand child labour, but also to understand its implications for the design of education policies and interventions that can contribute to enhanced enrolment, retention and academic achievement of working children in the basic education system. Objectives of the Study: The main objectives of the study were: 1) to provide an in-depth understanding of the complex phenomenon of child labour and education; 2) to collect qualitative information specifically related to educational and psycho-social needs based on working children’s specific experiences, insights, and perceptions; 3) to determine the attitude and knowledge levels of educators and parents on child labour-related issues; and 4) to recommend policies and programmes aimed a...

In order to achieve this, the study uses the Vector Auto Regression (VAR) model along with five tests: Granger causality test, Cusum stability test, Johansen cointegration test, variance decomposition, and impulse response function test. The study applies two models: An aggregate model which measures the effect of the ASE on investment, and a disaggregate model that measures the effect of the three economic sectors in ASE (financial, industrial, and services) on investment. The study concludes that there is no significant effect of ASE activities on investment in the long run. However, there is a positive significant effect of both financial and services sectors and that there is no significant effect of the industrial sector on investment. Furthermore, the study found that there is a unidirectional Granger causal relationship running from ...
