- #projectNew funded project on Yeast Biology and Bioinformatics, in the framework of the OSCARS project platform 📣 A new project co-coordinated by Miguel Cacho Teixeira, at #iBB/Departamento de Bioengenharia (Instituto Superior Técnico) and by Pedro Monteiro, at INESC-ID, was just funded in the framework of the European Union OSCARS project (Open Science Cluster’s Action for Research & Society) platform.#Yeasts are vital organisms in both the #bioeconomy, e.g. through the industrial production of food, energy and commodities, and in health research, due to their role as pathogens and model organisms for studying genetics and disease 🧫. ✅ The #FAIRY project focuses on enhancing #YEASTRACT+, a widely used open-access #FAIR-sharing Knowledge-base and ELIXIR /BioData.pt service constructed in 2006, under the leadership of Isabel Sá-Correia in collaboration with INESC-ID, expanded ever since, and that supports research on yeast transcriptional regulation. ✅ The FAIRY project promotes #OpenScience principles to make yeast regulatory data in YEASTRACT+ more #FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), fostering global collaboration and accelerating discoveries in #yeast-based #biotechnology, sustainable #bioeconomy, and #humanhealth research. [PT] O 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝗢𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗯 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗹 desta semana é a levedura 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘴 IST 724. Esta estirpe pertence à coleção de leveduras Técnico-CC do Instituto Superior Técnico , localizada no iBB-Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences. Identificação, Curadoria e 📸: Madalena Matos, Mónica Fernandes e Isabel Sá-Correia. [EN] The 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝗢𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗯 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗹 of this week is the yeast 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘴 IST 724. 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘴 is a basidiomycete yeast, a group that also includes several mushrooms. This yeast is characterized by the production of carotenoid pigments that give a reddish color to its colonies. This species widely occurs in nature but is found preferentially associated with plants (i.e leaves🌿). It is therefore worth mentioning that this strain was isolated from a culture of the marine macroalgae 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘳𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘢 J.Brodie & L.M.Irvine 1997. 💡This yeast has essential biotechnological applications because it produces lipids and enzymes of industrial interest.
