Agfest has run since 1983 and is now held over the three days that begin with the first Thursday in May. The RYO is a body of young people aged from 15 to 30 years who meet together for social, educational and skill development and also go on exchange with other RYO groups around the world. There are around 350 members of the RYO in Tasmania and a committee of 30 of these youth puts together Agfest.
The funds raised by Agfest go to improving the show site, developing RYO and helping support three full-time counsellors for Tasmania Rural Counselling. Agfest is one of the top three field days in Australia and, as it’s name suggests, the event is centred on agriculture and related industries. Here are just a few:
- Sheep Dog Trials
- Equine Expo
- The Peter Brock Memorial Four Wheel Drive Track
- Heritage Display
- Unique Tastes of Foods Sampling
- Dairy Feature
- Craft Pavilions
Free parking is available for everyone and free shuttle buses are available from the Forster Street entrance to York Park in Launceston and other places en route.
