Kites as a model for rafts. Individual brown kites (lipid-based nanoclusters) come together by as yet ill-defined mechanisms. These might constitute a functional ‘raft', in which the characteristics of the large yellow kites (proteins) that associate with these domains can change.

This Keystone Symposium on Lipid Rafts and Cell Function took place between 23 and 28 March 2006, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA, and was organized by L.J. Pike and M.E. Edidin.
