'Good governance' and 'democratization' are often mentioned together, especially when addressing ... more 'Good governance' and 'democratization' are often mentioned together, especially when addressing two broad issues: a country's socioeconomic development, and the features of its political regime. Views stem from both being " two sides of the same coin " , as the western aid donor's perspective may suggest, to more radical views where both are depicted as two separate concepts independent from each other (Lazarus, 2013; Leftwich, 1994), but acting as tools supporting the neoliberal hegemonic project through aid conditionality. Here, we discuss how the concepts are interlinked, present counter-evidence supporting that they can act separately, and briefly explored and discussed why a merging agenda on good governance and democratization seem to be currently pushed by some international institutions.
