I HAVE AN ADDICTION SIR (original) (raw)

Sticky Friends Only Post
Mostly LOCKED.
This journal is partially friends-locked, because I like to know who's reading what. If you want to add me, go right ahead! Just be sure to comment and let me know. I friend neither lurkers nor empty journals nor real life acquaintances. :D
Me: Diana. I write. And read. And talk. A lot. Lately, things have been borderline crazy with obligatory RL-type things; however, fandom is like affectionate herpes. It never really goes away. ♥
Fanfiction can be found at pumpkin_fics.

i could teach you, but i have to charge --
Today I saw Crazy Stupid Love, which was amazing for a few reasons:
1. Ryan Gosling mm
2. Emma Stone ♥
3. Steve Carell! So lovable
4. The little boy *smoosh*
5. BIG SURPRISE TWISTS and an awesome + hysterical scene at the end of the second act.
6. A+ originality!!! Finally, a movie which isn't based on a comic book. or a real book. or part 998794 of a series (I'm looking at you PotC). or about tiny blue gremlins.
( Also, I love the internet.Collapse )
I am currently reading three things: The Help, in preparation for the movie - my mom listened to the audio book and for three weeks ended all her sentences with "honey child!", Goblet of Fire, and on akissinacrisis's recommendation, Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain.
Rereading HP makes me cry. I've done the first three and PoA had me all sniffly at the end, when Dumbledore says, "“You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us?" I also have the audiobook of this and I love when Stephen Fry reads this part, I always play it back. sniff.
I JUST HAVE A LOT OF EMOTIONS OKAY
What have you been reading lately?

on yearning
OH EM GEE YAAAAALLL
I wrote another fic. What Will Not Love Discover. I am on a roll. PLEASE READ IT PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEAAAASE.
If you don't --
I WILL CRY LIKE MALFOY
No, actually I kind of like this one. The fic, I mean. It fulfills my wistful Ginny-love which was so sorely neglected in DH. Also -- whenever I write H/G, it always turns out so yearning. Is yearning a kink? When I think of the two of them it's always of what they could be, what they want to be, and less of what they are. Maybe it's because I wish Jo had shown us more sides of their relationship. A little less Spiderman/Mary Jane and a lot more, I don't know, Harry and Ginny. Ah, well, it gives me more ways to fill in the blanks.
In other news,
1. I am so poor. (I had a couple of surgeries and have been job-less for a few months now.) I'm bumming off my mama. This is how poor I am: I have 69 app updates on my phone which I cannot download, because I accidentally owe iTunes $18 that I cannot pay.
What is my life.
2. BUT, being frustrated about it is way too energy-consuming.
3. I have cried laughing at this. Tom Felton on Conan - best bit is when he shows him the Draco/Harry manips. BAHAHAHA
4. I've started watching Buffy from the beginning, mainly because so much of my flist loved it and that makes me think I'll love it too - which I do. Plus I love anything that takes place in a high school in the nineties. ♥ Right now I love Xander, mostly. And Angel of course. I'm midway through season two, and it is my cup O TEA.
Okay. Now I have to pimp my fic. Where do we pimp H/G these days?

two fics (harry/ginny)
WOOHOO
so I wrote fic:
Paradox (Ginny, Remus, Harry/Ginny, PG) - At Auntie Muriel’s, Remus and Ginny have a strange conversation.
and I reposted a comment-fic from before DH (book) was released!
her bouquet's not made of roses (Harry/Ginny, PG) - Harry walks into Ginny's room at an inopportune moment.

Be gentle; I haven't done fic in such a long time, I think my writing is quite rusty.
I still love Ginny so so much, though. ♥

pumpkinpasty strikes back
hello!
most of my flist is gone now, sniff sniff, but I wanted to pop in here and say that I've been lurking - mainly because of all the hp stuff this summer - and that I'm around. So YAY! Also my pottermore name is FlightCharm163, what what.
I was rereading my fic the other day and had major nostalgia, only to discover that most of the old hp (H/G and R/Hr) fandom communities are dead -- any recs for active ones? Also recent fic recs would be awesome! I've been combing through the OTP and that's been helpful.
I would like to finish the ones I have sitting on my hard drive, but then again I always say that.

Harry/Ginny = Vanilla?
I won't pretend I'm not spamming your flists tonight. Ahaha.
But, okay. I am musing.
Must Harry/Ginny always be considered vanilla? Why?

Generally speaking, I don't like this 'fandom stereotype' (presuming I have to give it a name). In and around fandom, I get the feeling that because I choose to write H/G, and because it's my OTP, ( I'm not someone to be taken seriously.Collapse )
I love my fandom, and my OTP. I honestly, honestly do. But sometimes I just get -- tired, I suppose. And I think this is why.
Of course, all of this coming from the writer of this little bit of cotton candy might sound hypocritical, but. Well. An opinion is an opinion.
Now. DISCUSS PLS, if you all don't hate me now.

EDIT: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the comments because my darling fireworkfiasco has written OMG HATE!SEX. ♥ ♥
(Also, because everyone else seems to make more sense than I do, so.)
EDIT 2: It's both encouraging and pleasantly alarming to see that there are several non-H/G shippers, new H/G shippers, and outright H/G-haters here, willing to give the ship's fic another chance. :) So, recs --
I maintain that all of the writers mentioned above write fics with substance. Several other authors have been mentioned in the comments: foreword, emmagrant01, magnolia_mama, and mickawber_fics are all really excellent at Harry/Ginny as well.
As far as specific stories go, flyingcarpet is the most reliable reccer from this corner of the fandom that I know. Her recs are at derivational, under this tag, and at this post.
EDIT 3: I'm a little overwhelmed. BUT. flyingcarpet has compiled a list of non-fluffy H/G recs (OH YES they're out there), and another author that's been brought up in the comments? antonia_east, whose writing can be found at lily_tarn. :)
