PNES is generally considered psychological in origin; however, latest theoretical models suggest the mediation of cognitive-emotional vulnerabilities in these patients. Cognitive deficits especially in executive domains have been reported in previous studies, but findings are largely equivocal. The present study attempted to evaluate the comparative profile of two seizure groups along with the healthy control. Selected tests from NIMHANS neuropsychological battery were applied to measure the executive cognitive domains. Results of study found common (response inhibition/ flexibility) as well as different (attention, verbal category fluency, and visual working memory) cognitive performances of two seizure groups. These findings confirmed the genuineness of cognitive deficits in PNES patients and urge the mental health professionals to consider these vulnerabilities while making interventional strategies.

The etiology of PNES is generally associated to psychosocial factors. Earlier traumatic life experiences, especially sexual abuses are considered as an important predisposing cause among PNES patients. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the current study was to survey various aspects of sexual and physical abuse in PNES patients and to compare it with epilepsy and healthy control group. Materials and Methods: Three groups (PNES, epilepsy, and healthy control) with 50 patients/participants in each were compared for the incidents of sexual and physical abuse. Semi-structured interview was conducted to explore the experiences of those patients/subjects who acknowledged about their traumas and consented to talk about it. Results: Incide...

Research paper thumbnail of Seguin Form Board's Colour Variability and Its Effect on Performance in Younger Children

The task on SFB requires form and shape perception through application of gestah principles including figure ground rule. Colour contrast develop contour that facilitate children to perceive object easily from its background hence it may help them to perform faster on test. This might be the reason that colour contrast/bichromatic board was originally designed and standardized. However, presently large colour variation is being found amongst the available boards in market which seems clearly a violation of norms for testing. This variation color may adversely affect the performance of the child To examine this hypothesis experimental study was designed to evaluate the effect of board colour variations on performance while working on it. After taking ba...
