Whether it was an act of heroism, an act of being a traitor or an act of sacrifice, if not the most famous, at least one of the top people who are known to the Philippine history, there was Jose Rizal.

This art depicts a dying gladiator, said to represent the Filipino experience by the hands of the Spaniards. Felix Hidalgo was recognized as one of the greatest Filipino painters of the 19th century, and his art primarily represents the Catholic religion. They were friends of Rizal and all of them shared a passion for art and a belief in the reform movement. These two painters were recognized by the Spaniards and in their work of art.
