Research paper thumbnail of The Direct-Contact Gravel, Ground, Air Heat Exchanger—Application in Single-Family Residential Passive Buildings

The methodology of their application consists of using heat and cold from the ground at an insignificant depth (about 1.5–4.0 m below the ground level for the central European climate) through an aggregate that is buried in the ground. This solution of simple installations is used for preheating and cooling fresh air drawn into the building through a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. In more complex applications it can be integrated with the source of heat and cold in passive buildings to create complete heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. In both cases, the air flowing through the exchanger is cooled and dried in summer, heated and humidified in winter, and filtered from pollen and bacteria all year. Direct contact of the deposit with the surrounding ...

Research paper thumbnail of Integration of a heat exchanger on the supply air with the ground-source heat pump in a passive house – case study

IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science

A ground-source heat pump (GSHP) system designed to cooperate with a low temperature heating syst... more A ground-source heat pump (GSHP) system designed to cooperate with a low temperature heating system and hot water production was installed in a new passive house nearby the city of Poznan (Poland). The paper describes an integration of the GSHP system with a heat exchanger on the supply airflow in order to recover the waste heat from outside (fresh) ventilation air and store it in the ground during summer, as well as to heat the supply air in winter what prevents the recuperator from freezing. Analytical calculations to evaluate the energy, economy and environmental benefits of supplying the low heat reservoir with heat from fresh air were made. Chilled supply air compensates the heat gains from building and is exhausted, simultaneously overcoming a part of the cooling loads by using mechanical ventilation system. Heat taken in the heat exchanger by the glycol mixture is used in the evaporator of the heat pump, which produces hot water with increased energy efficiency-increased coefficient of performance (COP). After that glycol mixture is supplied to the ground. In the case of stagnation of the heat pump, glycol mixture exiting the heat exchanger is directed to the ground, where part of the delivered waste heat is stored. The results of calculation experiment indicated that heat recovered from the supply ventilation air during summer is increasing the Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF) of the heating system in winter, consequently significant energy savings can be achieved, what is a part of the idea of the Sustainable Development. Based on the simulations it has also been demonstrated that the proposed technical solution has a high application potential for micro and macro scale installations using GSHP.

Research paper thumbnail of Application of Poensgen apparatus for determining the thermal conductivity of reflective insulations

This paper presents the results of experimental investigation of thermal conductivity of multilayer reflective insulations. The measurements were made with Poensgens LaserComp FOX 314 apparatus. Five samples of reflective insulation and one sample of foamed polystyrene have been tested. The difficulties of determining the replacement thermal resistance for the discussed materials have been presented. Information about the apparatus used, theory of the measurement method, procedure of the experiment and method of sample preparation were presented. The study was performed for four different temperature pairs representing the real thermal conditions in Poland throughout the year. On the basis of the obtained measurement results the average thermal conductivity and average thermal resistance of the tested materials w...

This process is an extremely complex undertaking. So far, no methodology with an open set of decision criteria has been developed that would include the modeling of the decisionmaker’s preferences using statistical surveys of a group of decisionmakers for this purpose. There is also no methodology relating to the interdependence of decision criteria. The present paper presents an original methodology consisting of five stages. The prepared algorithm indicates the need for changes in the classic design of residential buildings, taking into account the decision criteria that show interdependence. The proposed methodology consists in combining three methods of multi-criteria decision support: the DEMATEL method, used to determine the relations between decision criteria; the AHP/ANP method, used to build a model of the decisionmaker’s preferences, and the TOPSIS method, used to cr...

W artykule przedstawiono analizę wielokryterialną wyboru sposobu zasilania wybranego budynku hotelowego w skroplony gaz ziemny (LNG). W analizie wykorzystano metodę sumy ważonej oraz zidentyfikowany zbiór kryteriów decyzyjnych. * Politechnika Poznańska, Studium doktoranckie WBiIŚ: Budownictwo a Środowisko, ul.
