Research paper thumbnail of Sliding mode feedback linearized control of PWM inverter fed induction motor

Proceedings of the 1996 IEEE IECON. 22nd International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control, and Instrumentation, 1996

The principle of the method is discussed and compared with the most popular AC motor drive technology field oriented control technique. The main features and advantages of the above control systems are presented. The sliding mode implementation to a linearized system is shown as well. This approach shows how to avoid the modulator block and gives the possibility to directly control inverter switches. In this paper the methods of sliding mode application to a linearized induction motor are presented and discussed. The simulation results in steady and transient states are shown and compared. Finally the properties of these methods are presented and the advantages and disadvantages of variable structure controllers are summarized

Three different speed estimation algorithms: backpropagation, conjugate gradient as well as least squares are investigated and compared. Some oscillograms which illustrate properties and sensitivity to parameter changes of the speed estimation techniques are presented

This paper proposes a new direct power control for this kind of converter using space vector modulation (DPC-SVM). The active and reactive power is used

This paper reviews present state and trends in development of key parts of controlled induction motor drive systems: converter topologies, modulation methods, as well as control and estimation techniques. Following topologies are described: Two-and Multi-level Voltage Source Converters, Current Source Converters and Direct Converters. Among the modulation techniques are briefly presented: conventional bipolar and unipolar PWM, space vector modulation (SVM) with extension for multilevel converters, harmonic control techniques, variable frequency modulation (hysteresis, nearest level, and model predictive techniques). About the control strategies, the generic torque control methods are described in two groups: linear and nonlinear controllers. In linear group are presented field oriented control (FOC), direct torque control (DTC) with voltage SVM, and DTC with flux vector modulation (DTC-FVM). The group of nonlinear control include: classical switching table based hysteresis DTC, direct self control (DSC) and predictive DTC scheme. Also, selected simple flux vector observers/estimators are discussed.

Fast controls strategies such as line voltage Sensorless Virtual Flux (VF) based Direct Power Control with Space Vector Modulator (DPC-SVM) for rectifier and Direct Torque Control with Space Vector Modulator (DTC-SVM) for inverter side are used. These strategies lead to good dynamic and static behaviour of the proposed control system-Direct Power and Torque Control-Space Vector Modulated (DPT-SVM). The results obtained in simulations and experiment show good performance of the proposed system. Additional power loop from motor to PWM rectifier side improved dynamic behaviors of the power flom control. As result, better input-output energy matching allows decreasing the size of the dc-link capacitor.
